It is the only siding that combines the performance – minimal maintenance; rot, fire and termite-resistance; wind and cold resistance – with the look of wood-colored clapboards, scarves, stones or even brick. Fiber cement, however, only accounts for a fraction of those other materials.

Completion

The fibers must be painted or stained cement siding. It can be done by the manufacturer or a paint shop hired from the wooden yard where you order the siding, before it can be installed – or after it has been finished. Trim

Use fiber cement to minimize maintenance. They are rot proof and can be used as corner, frieze, or fascia panels with standard thickness of 3/4 and 1-inch. There are also available crown moldings. Wood trims with cement fiber siding are also available. There should be a 1/8-inch gap, hidden with caulk wherever trim and siding meet.

Installation

Ensure that your contractor uses stainless-steel rust-proof nails, primes all cuts, and cloth joints with a paint-free, flexible outside screen.

Fiber cement must be installed on steps, decks and ceilings at least 2 cm above the grade, and at least 6 cm above the grade in order to prevent water absorption. Check the joints and recoil as needed every few years.
