Who Wins – Fiber Cement Siding and Metal Siding

Commercial builders often end up torn between two main materials: metal cladding and fiber cement siding, finding the most robust exterior commercial siding material. Ask the siding companies for their help to understand durability, power and toughness as both commercial siding choices are renowned. But who will win the Fiber Cement vs. Metal Siding face-off?

Ease of Installation

Using track systems that the panels clip into, both metal and fiber cement panels are mounted in a similar way. But metal panels may be more labor-intensive, and typically require an installer with extensive material experience.

Because of how soft they are, all metals can dent and scratch, so it is highly recommended to hire a metal siding contractor as the edges can be quite dangerous. And it needs to be fixed immediately if a panel is scratched, or it will rust.

The architectural wall panels of James Hardie fiber cement are amazingly simple to mount once you get the hang of it. However, if James Hardie is used for the first time by your installation team, we are happy to give team members virtual or in-person pre-construction training to ensure that the project is installed as smoothly as possible.

Compared to most metal panels, fiber cement panels are light and easier to handle. Over the last few decades, the formulations have improved tremendously, leading to much less brittle breakage. For our wall panels, James Hardie offers step by step instructional videos using clip fasteners, showing how smooth installation is.

Quality Facilities

It can be of high quality if you purchase a strong metal material. In an area with mild climates and moderate temperatures higher-quality steel siding will last up to 50 years. But in the rain, it will rust. It does not rust aluminum, but it does corrode. Copper and zinc give rust and corrosion resistance, with higher price points.

The ingredients of fiber-cement panels alone produce a high-quality rot and fungus resistant material, safe from pest and are developed with a method that ensures that it has almost no moisture vulnerability.

Metal Siding

The average installed cost of metal siding is $ 3 to $ 5. Steel siding is making a big comeback, while aluminum has taken a back seat to vinyl. There is a lot to give for both of these styles of metal siding, including prefinished colors and some textures that resemble wood siding. Metal siding is resistant to rust, insects and burning, and needs very little maintenance. The paint is, however, baked on enamel, meaning if you get tired of the color, you can't repaint it.

Unfortunately, anywhere near salt water, steel siding should not be used, so if you live in a beach town, this is not for you. Aluminum can stand up to salt water, but in places that are very wet or very hot, it is not recommended, nor is steel.

Dents are common and persistent problem for aluminum. Steel does not suffer as much from dents as aluminum, but it does happen and it is irreversible. It is difficult to pop them out and it would be appropriate to replace the segment.

Fiber Cement Siding

While metal siding's popularity is decreasing, as customers become more conscious of its toughness, weather resistance, and long-lasting durability, fiber cement siding increases its base each year.

If you plan to change the color, pre-painted fiber cement siding ensures no painting for as long as 25 years or more. Thermal expansion is resisted by this robust siding, which ensures that caulking can last much longer than on metal siding. Cement siding with fiber is very resistant to cracks or dings from daily wear and tear. It can be used and is fireproof in any environment. For those who build fiber cement siding, many insurance providers offer a discount on fire insurance. A lifetime warranty is provided by many producers. It is virtually indistinguishable from the siding of painted wood and comes with a wide range of colors, textures and designs.
